lichen planus is chronic, recurrent and mucocutaneous disease with unknown cause that destruction of basement membrane in this disease occurs by some proteinases like matrix metalloproteinases (MMPS).
Because of many studies existence for MMP-9 elevation in oral malignant and premalignant lesions like lichen planus, we decided to investigate variation trends of MMP-9 before and after treatment by triamcinolone mouthwash in patients with erosive oral lichen planus.
Current study will be done at Shahid Beheshti oral and maxillofacial department and biology laboratory in 4 stages:
First stage (case selection): 20 patients with erosive oral lichen planus that approved by clinical and histological criteria (without any cutaneous lesions, contact or drug induced lichenoid reactions) and referred to Shahid Beheshti oral and maxillofacial department will be selected.
Second stage (patient's saliva gathering): that will be done by Navazesh technique.
Third stage: intervention treatment by triamcinolone mouthwash (that is formulated in 1 cc triamcinolone vial in 19 cc distilled water) for 4 times daily after meals.
Forth stage: saliva gathering after treatment, by Navazesh technique and will be sent to biology lab for measuring MMP-9 by ELISA technique.
