Protocol summary

Study aim
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of applying nurse-peer-led support intervention on quality of life in patients with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator in Seyyed-Al-Shohada Hospital in Urmia.
Design
A clinical trial with a pre-post-test control group, randomized
Settings and conduct
From all participants was taken a pre-test with the MacNew quality of life questionnaire. Then participants were randomly divided into two groups intervention and control. In the intervention group, 6 people who had the highest quality of life scores and eligible peers were selected and 4 sessions 60 minutes about implantation defibrillator and its complications, self-care, and compatibility with the device were trained by the face-to-face method. The rest of the intervention group was divided into 6 groups of 9, and then each of their peers randomly entered one of the groups. The duration of nurse-peer-led support intervention sessions for each group was 4 sessions of 45 minutes. The venue for the sessions was in the specialty and subspecialty centers of the heart of Seyed-Al-shohada in Urmia.
Participants/Inclusion and exclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria for the study: 1) All patients with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator 2) At least 3 months have passed since the insertion of Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator. exclusion criteria for the study: 1) Unwillingness to continue to participate in this study by the patient
Intervention groups
In the intervention group, a nurse-peer-led support intervention was implemented for five months from the beginning of February to the end of July and quality of life rate in patients with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator in the two groups before and after the appalling of nurse-peer-led support intervention were analyzed.
