Determining the effect of azithromycin 1% treatment on the signs and symptoms of blepharitis

Design

Clinical trial with control group, with parallel groups, double-blind, randomized, phase 3 on 90 patients. It will be done by blocking method for randomization.

Settings and conduct

This study is performed in Razi Hospital of Birjand, South Khorasan Province. 90 patients are randomly divided into two groups: 1% azithromycin or erythromycin. Then, the signs and symptoms of blepharitis in patients before and 4 weeks after treatment will be evaluated by the study leader without knowing the type of medication received by the patient.

Participants/Inclusion and exclusion criteria

Patients with blepharitis will be referred to the ophthalmology clinic of Razi Hospital in Birjand in 1400.
Admission requirements :. Patients with anterior blepharitis between the ages of 18 and 80 and patients with eye injuries and infections, non-dry eye inflammation, surgery, and eye trauma will be excluded in the last 6 months.

Intervention groups

Patients with blepharitis referred to an ophthalmology clinic will be randomly divided into two groups receiving 1% azithromycin (topical twice daily for 4 days) and erythromycin (topical twice daily for 4 days).

Main outcome variables
-
Clinical signs and symptoms of blepharitis include eye irritation, itching and burning of the eyelids, eye discomfort after working with a computer, a feeling of heaviness in the eyelids, discharge on the eyelashes, a feeling of dry eyes, sticking of the eyelids when waking up and redness of the eyes.
