Effects of Eight Weeks Combined and Hight-intensity Interval Training on CTRP1 and CTRP3 Serum Levels, Anthropometric Indices, Insulin Sensitivity and Resistance and Atherogenic Index of Plasma in Overweight and Obese Women
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of eight weeks of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and combined aerobic-resistance training on serum levels of CTRP1 and CTRP3, anthropometric indices, and insulin sensitivity in overweight and obese women.
Design
A randomized clinical trial with a control group, involving 33 participants. Randomization was performed using the sealed envelope method.
Settings and conduct
The study was conducted as an intervention study in three sports centers in Tuyserkan city. All interventions were supervised by the research team and experienced trainers. The exercises were performed in controlled environments, ensuring safety and accurate assessment standards. The intervention period lasted for 8 weeks, and evaluations were carried out 48 hours before and after the intervention period.
Participants/Inclusion and exclusion criteria
The participants in this study were 33 overweight and obese women (aged 18 to 50 years), randomly assigned to three groups: control, HIIT, and combined aerobic-resistance training.
Inclusion Criteria:
Female gender
Age between 18 and 50 years
Residence in Tuyserkan city
BMI between 25 and 34.9 kg/m²
Exclusion Criteria:
Engagement in regular physical activity during the past three months
Presence of physical or motor disabilities
Consumption of alcohol, tobacco, or specific medications
Presence of specific diseases (cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, metabolic diseases, or cancer)

Randomization description
To randomly allocate participants into the study groups (control, HIIT, and combined), the sealed envelope method was used. First, a random allocation sequence was generated using a random number generator. Each number in the sequence was assigned to one of the three groups (control, HIIT, or combined). These allocation numbers were written on small pieces of paper and placed in opaque, sealed envelopes. The envelopes were then randomly shuffled without any specific order. Upon the entry of each participant into the study, one of the sealed envelopes was randomly selected and opened. Based on the number inside the envelope, the participant was assigned to one of the three groups (control, HIIT, or combined). This method ensured allocation concealment and reduced the risk of bias from both researchers and participants.
