The effectiveness of a nurse led resilience-training program on psychological distress, resilience, and psychological well-being of school students in Oman
This study aims to test the effectiveness of a nurse-led resilience-training program on the psychological distress, resilience, and psychological well-being of school students in Oman.
Design
Phase I: A cross-sectional descriptive correlational survey will be conducted to estimate the relationship between psychological distress, resilience, and psychological wellbeing of high school students.
Phase II: True Experimental randomized controlled design with the wait-listed control group; with repeated measures for resilience and psychological distress, psychological wellbeing (baseline, 4 weeks, 8 weeks, and 12 weeks) will be carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of a nurse-led resilience training program on school student’s resilience, psychological distress, and psychological wellbeing.
Settings and conduct
Private and Government schools in Oman will be considered as the setting for the study. Private schools refer to schools catering education to Expatriate communities like Indian, Bangladeshi, Pakistani, and Philippines, and government school refers to schools catering education to Omani nationals and other nationals who can speak Arabic.
Participants/Inclusion and exclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria
1. Students of classes 7th, 8th and 9th grade.
2. Willing to participate in the study.
3. Students identified as having low psychological well-being, low resilience, and psychological distress of mild and moderate level in the screening will be included in the intervention group.
Exclusion criteria
1. Students with a known mental illness on treatment, identified from the school health records/ school health Nurse.
2. Students with severe psychological distress during screening; would be referred to a school health nurse or counselor.

Randomization description
sealed Envelopes will be used for simple randomization to randomly either assign (1:1) each eligible school (cluster) to the intervention group or control group. The schools having 7th,8th and 9th-grade students will be randomly selected and each classroom will be considered as one cluster with 30-40 students. This is an open-label study and the study team will reveal the study group to participants after randomization. The sequence is given below.
